    June 6, 2009, 1:50 pm
David Rennke has been an editor for more than 20 years and has used every editing system imaginable—but always finds himself gravitating back to Avid. He edited most of Pearl’s dailies on his laptop, on set, which made the process convenient and efficient. For finishing, he used Avid DS v.10 with DNxHD 220x. This allowed everything to work seamlessly and without any crashes—something...

The Wonderful Power of the Oscars

      November 9, 2018, 10:11 am
We love to talk smack about the Oscars. They gave Crash the award for Best Picture, after all. And in this day and age when the definitions of cinema are changing and film fans are watching what they want, how they want, through various platforms and formats, the Academy sometimes seems behind the times with all their rules and their fancy black tie affair. Plus there are so many other awards shows, from those favoring more popular movies to those honoring indies, from those chosen by kids to those chosen by critics, and these other options for the celebration of cinema often make up for this or that “snub” by the Oscars by offering some kind of broader recognition of contenders.

It was just over a year ago that Avid Technology partnered with Keycode Media for the #AskAvid event where Media Composer users (and really anyone else curious about Avid and where Media Composer was headed) came together with Avid executives to talk the present and future of Media Composer. It was an informative but often contentious event as some old farts longtime Avid customers complained pressed the MC team on the future of their have to use favorite NLE.

The Pitfalls of Online File Sharing and Sending Se

      November 7, 2018, 10:39 am
Easy-to-use, readily-accessible, and consumer-oriented, online file sharing platforms such as Dropbox and Google Drive are, to end users, a pleasant replacement to older file transfer methods such as FTP. FTP is complex to use and requires IT intervention to make almost any change. The pain associated with FTP, which was developed in the 1970s, is one of the factors that opened the door for the rise of online file sharing services in the workplace.

Get up and running with Adobe Animate—Flash rebo

      November 7, 2018, 10:37 am
Back in the 90’s, Macromedia Flash was the king of web-based animation and it was everywhere. Then in 2010 the great Steve Jobs drove a stake right through its heart, refusing to endorse it on the iOS platform. A testament to the strength of the iPhone and the nascent HTML5 standard, Flash died a fast death (surprisingly fast for many of us, given just how universally adopted it had been up until that moment.)
