      FCP Vs. AVID Redux

      October 18, 2009, 8:10 pm
People like competition for its own sake, so the NLE argument – just like other platform wars – never dies. In the past year, Apple and Avid have broken new ground with very solid updates to their flagship editor applications. Apple with its introduction of the "new" Final Cut Studio, featuring Final Cut Pro 7 – and Avid, first with Media Composer 3.5 and now 4.0.

A panel of five of today’s leading animation editors—John Carnochan, A.C.E. (Beauty and the Beast, Ice Age, The Simpsons Movie): Kevin Nolting (Up); Nancy Frazen (An Extremely Goofy Movie, Space Jam); Kent Beyda, A.C.E. (Scooby-Doo); and Lois Freeman-Fox (Fantasia/2000, Osmosis Jones)—were...

      Expert Connections

Two weeks ago I was fortunate enough to attend an editing workshop with double Emmy award winning editor Kris Trexler where we looked at how he cuts the genre he’s most known for namely television comedy. Suffice to say I got a great deal from the two days he spent with us some of which I want to share with you today. But beyond that it got me to thinking...

Editing Beyond the Laws of Physics

Back in 2003 when I converted my basement to full blown edit suite (a year long process), it was both a blessing and curse all at once. Gone was the commute and fighting with Chicagoland traffic. I could sleep in later and "get home" from work earlier. Sounds great!

      Happy Birthday Edit Foundry!!

      October 14, 2009, 8:03 pm
On October 12th the Edit Foundry was born. An idea of mine was to create a blog that focused solely on the aspect of editing. For the past twelve month I’ve created over 30 posts and discussed many topics. The site has had over 5,000 page views. Not bad for such a focused blog. As I enter year two I’m looking forward to many more posts.
