FCPX Not As Cheap As We Thought

If you compare the price of Final Cut Pro X to, let's say Adobe Premiere CS 5.5 which is priced $799, it seems that Apple's suite with its price of $299 will be much cheaper. However according to NoFilmSchool website the amount we will have to pay for the new Final Cut Pro is not quite as groundbreaking if you assume that Apple is simply breaking out the components of Final Cut Studio into an a la carte sales model through the App Store.

      March 4, 2021, 1:52 pm
“Sound of Metal” editor Mikkel E.G. Nielsen worked closely on keeping the film focused on Ruben’s internal journey. Ruben (Riz Ahmed) starts the film as a heavy metal drummer who suddenly loses his hearing and we follow him as he is suddenly forced into a new world of communication at a sober house for the deaf under the guidance of mentor Joe (Paul Raci). “The whole start has a completely different pace than at Joe’s house,” says Nielsen in an exclusive new interview for Gold Derby. “And then you have the end, which is different as well.” Watch the full interview about the Amazon Prime movie above.

2020 MPSE Golden Reel nominations: ‘Sound of Met

      March 2, 2021, 1:58 pm
All five of our predicted Oscar nominees for Best Sound number among the contenders for the Golden Reel Awards bestowed by the Motion Picture Sound Editors (MPSE). Oscar frontrunner “Sound of Metal” reaped three bids across the seven film categories as did one of its closest Oscar rivals, “News of the World.” Two of the other expected Oscar nominees — “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom” and “Tenet” are double nominees while the fifth predicted contender, “Mank,” had to make do with one nomination from the MPSE.

How our VFX team crafted a photoreal CG stag for G

      March 2, 2021, 1:57 pm
We joined forces with Glenfiddich to explore the story behind their iconic stag logo for their ‘Where Next?’ campaign. The photoreal CG Stag was created by our VFX team who ensured that the creature’s physiological makeup and movements were as accurate as possible while he maneuvered across varied terrain. The Stag travels through an emotional story arc from a starting point of fear and suspicion, then a growth in confidence, before ending in a moment of grandeur and prowess.

Building an 8K Editing PC for $2,000 (2021 Edition

      March 1, 2021, 1:32 pm
Starting with a guide to build a budget PC for 4K editing and then a guide for a mid-range 6K machine, we now want to look into getting setup with something to handle 8K. That’s totally reasonable considering the expected performance and that many future cameras are pushing the resolution even more – think Blackmagic’s 12K camera.
