    Lease is More

From Pandora and Netflix to the Adobe CS Suite Editions it looks like we are finally warming up to the idea of trading convenience over ownership. If only there was a consumer leasing program for Apple hardware.

Preditor: Being a one-stop shop editor

      July 16, 2010, 4:20 pm
After a over a decade of working for Disney in various capacities (actor, editor, and producer), Les Perkins went solo, creating an editing suite in a set-off part of his home in Glendale, CA. His advice on setting up a system, "Make sure it’s comfortable and ergonomically sound – your butt’s going to spend long hours in that seat."

Avid Screencast 37 - Pan and Zoom

      July 16, 2010, 10:56 am
I’ve had several requests for tutorials on Pan and Zoom, so this week and next, this will be out topic. This week, we’ll look into Avid’s own Pan & Zoom effect. It is used to, well, pan and zoom into images that are larger than your sequence dimensions without quality loss (as would occur if you imported the image into a bin and then used, say, a 3D Warp for panning and zooming).

Thanks to an upcoming piece of software we’re working on I’ve been spending a lot of time within the CS5 workflow environment, particularly looking at metadata and the Story workflow, and I’ve come to the conclusion that we’ve been so blinded by the Mercury Engine’s performance that we might not have seen where they’re heading. And I like what I see.

The Editor’s Guild Pt. 1 – Getting In...

      July 14, 2010, 10:10 am
An important question I often get is "how do I join the union?" This question comes from many people I meet, from established editors to the young people just starting out in the Hollywood. The catch is that the answer isn’t at all that simple. The question should be: "should I join the union?" Putting it simply, if you’re asking that question, the answer is not quite yet. But that’s just the beginning of the story.
