      Post NAB Review

      April 24, 2010, 6:59 pm
NAB 2010 has come and gone, yet this year’s event seemed different to me on many levels. First, there seemed to be an anxious yet excited energy at this year’s show, and attendance was up from last year too. It’s like back to business––but what business is that? Things are changing so rapidly today that it seems impossible to keep up. Trying to keep up is the main reason I go each year. Here are my highlights from the show floor.

There are a number of effects that fall into the "grunge" or "distressed" category, including film grain, scratches and film defects, TV scanlines and light leaks. The last group is typically only available from stock footage houses as actual film clips, rather than as plug-in filter effects.

Adobe has succesfully generated a hype leading up to the launch of Creative Suite 5. Through various sites fragments were’leaked’. This created the so called buzz that was picked up and redistributed by the social networks.

The twenty-fifth episode of THE EDIT BAY is now available for download. A funny thing happened at a conference...we found out that a show we were doing for one network, was also being done by ANOTHER network...

One of the most common tasks when doing color correction is matching two shots. So this week and next, we’ll do exactly that. As always, I like working with the curves in Avid, but you should be able to use the skills learned in this tutorial when using the Color Wheels as well.

      Dede Allen Revolutionized Editing

      April 22, 2010, 6:53 pm
Dede Allen, the film editor whose seminal work on Robert Rossen's "The Hustler" in 1961 and especially on Arthur Penn's "Bonnie and Clyde" in 1967 brought a startling new approach to imagery, sound and pace in American movies, died Saturday. She was 86.

I read a really cool post by Ross over at You Down With FCP? about making a client controller out of an original Nintendo controller. With his permission, I have reposted the first piece of the post, but you should go over to his blog to check it out. Read the full post here.
