Dublin's Oxegen Festival Brings Music to the Masses with Blackmagic Design's ATEM Production Switcher
Blackmagic Design today announced that Blackmagic Design’s ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher was used at Ireland’s biggest music festival, Oxegen Festival in Dublin.
Since its opening in 2004, Oxegen festival has hosted a variety of top international performances, including The Who’s first appearance in Ireland in more than 35 years. This year’s event saw Beyonce, Coldplay, Black Eyed Peas and Foo Fighters take the main stage, along with hundreds of other artists from around the globe.
Setanta Screens’ AV Manager, John Moriarty, supplier of LED screen technology and audio visual production services to leading event organizers and promoters throughout Europe, purchased the ATEM 1 M/E Production Switcher specifically for Oxegen Festival 2011 in order to broadcast and mix the live stage performance feeds during the three day event. A Blackmagic Design DVI Extender was also used to convert computer generated graphics from DVI to SDI, and Blackmagic Design’s UpDownCross Mini Converters were used to up convert standard definition material to HD SDI.
Moriarty said, “We received the ATEM a few days before the event and I set it up in my living room by connecting to my plasma TV to test the multi viewer. It was very easy to set up and I found my way around the hardware and software quite quickly.”
“Using the software based mixing panel was easy. There was no steep learning curve and having read the manual regarding importing graphics, I found it was simple to use. Our overall decision lied in the fact that it was good value for money, there are a range of inputs and outputs, and the ease of set up and use made all sources synced. We look forward to using more Blackmagic and ATEM products on our upcoming events.”

One advantage of Apple equipping the latest MacBook Pro models solely with USB-C is that each port can multi-task. Power, video, and data can all pass through an adapter connected to a single port. For photographers and videographers, this is a bittersweet change: losing the built-in SD card reader on older Mac laptops is awfully inconvenient, but now a single device can handle several tasks.

Way back in 1918, Max Fleischer gave us Out of the Inkwell, a series of shorts featuring Koko the Clown. Koko was an animated character interacting with live action people on screen. Audiences flocked to this rotoscoped novelty. In 1923, Walt Disney turned the idea around when he put Alice, a live action girl, into a cartoon world. Since then, there have been numerous attempts to combine animated characters into live-action films.

The classic sunset shot that closes out the day or the entire narrative of your film is a cinematic staple. Whether you want your characters sitting on the beach, standing on top of a building, or riding off into the sunset, capturing the shot is the first step in the process. Because sunsets are so wildly different from one another, they all need different color grading. Here are a few different ways to color grade your sunset in Premiere Pro and After Effects.
