AMSTERDAM — UK-based VFX software developer The Foundry (www.thefoundry.co.uk) is previewing a new desktop VFX workflow application at the IBC show. Hiero provides a scriptable timeline tool for Nuke that conforms edit decision lists and parcels out VFX work to Nuke artists.

The fifth annual NY Post|Production Conference, organized by the digital media training center Future Media Concepts in association with the National Association of Broadcasters, will be held in New York City from October 5-8, 2009. At the conference, leading industry professionals will instruct attendees on the new technology needed by those pursuing careers in the production, post-production, broadcast and new media fields.

Well, it’s finally happened. Apple has released a new version of Final Cut Studio. As has become typical for Apple, the web pages explaining the new features are slick, well thought out and come with concise and well produced explanatory videos.

It only happens every 2 years or so that Apple releases a major upgrade to its professional suite of post-production software. Now Final Cut Studio 3 is unveiled, and at the core is Final Cut Pro 7.

Having just seen Alfred Hitchcock's "The Wrong Man" for the first time, I was particularly taken by one sequence early in the film. By now anyone who has ever heard of Final Cut Pro has heard that Apple shipped Final Cut Pro 7 as part of the new Final Cut Studio on July 23. It wasn’t the total FCP reboot that many had hoped and consists mainly tacked on new features. The early word was that it probably should have been called Final Cut Pro 6.5 (and I agree) but you can’t make a splashy new release with only half a number advancement can you?
