      My Editing Program Is...?

      December 21, 2017, 7:53 am
I’m not an editor by trade; I typically don’t make my living editing video for others. In the course of producing content, though, I’m called on, from time to time, to edit pieces. I generally cut shorter-form promotional, training, marketing and corporate pieces. I learned to edit almost 20 years ago on Apple’s Final Cut Pro. Back in the late 1990s, I was a beta tester in the earliest days of the application.

      Blade Runner 2049 VFX Breakdown

      December 21, 2017, 7:52 am
Rodeo FX – Here is the VFX breakdown about our work on Blade Runner 2049. The Rodeo FX artists completed 75 visual effects shots on this sequel of Ridley Scott’s classic in their Montreal and Los Angeles studios. The proximity of the LA office greatly helped the collaboration with Denis Villeneuve. Since the post-production work took place in the city of angels, Deak Ferrand, Art Director and Concept Artist, worked directly on the conceptualization with the Quebec director in Rodeo FX’s Los Angeles studios.

5 Ways to Use the Macguffins

      December 20, 2017, 5:30 am
MacGuffins are everywhere in cinema, from the holy grail in Indiana Jones to the One Ring in The Lord of the Rings. However, not all films make good use of the power of these plot devices, namely action and superhero films. In this video essay, Sage Hyden of Just Write explores how these films oversimplify their narratives by making MacGuffins the focal point of the entire plot. Not only that, but he suggests five ways to use them so they serve your story rather than the other way around.

      December 19, 2017, 1:50 pm
he close-up is a cinematography technique used often on faces to show nuanced emotions or to hammer in broad emotions on an otherwise jaded audience. Recently, it’s been used more for details on small procedures or actions, highlighting the minutiae of machinery or hands working. But its usefulness in the realm of audience effect, changing how we see the minds of characters, is paramount.
