We begin the semester by cutting a complex dialog sequence, using ScriptSync to help assemble the 40+ camera angles that make up the scene. Because the students have so much to do technically in constructing the scene, they sometimes fail to see the forest for the trees on the first pass. That is, because they have so much material to sort through—and so many decisions to consider—they often tend to get caught up in building the scene, and forget to sit back and really watch.

Well darn it all to heck, I can’t make it to Amsterdam this year. I didn’t last year either...but the year I did go...man, I had fun. Been trying to get back but too many things conspire against that. Not only is the city a blask, but I get to meet a whole lot of industry people at IBC, and a whole lot in my area at the Final Cut Pro User Group Supermeets.

For two days in mid-September, the 3-D Entertainment Summit was held in Hollywood with various motion picture, television, gaming and Internet professionals in attendance to consider the evolving market and technologies for stereoscopic motion pictures. Event sponsors consisted of Variety, the Entertainment Technology Center (ETC), Unicomm, Real D and Sony, among others.
