    Wes Plate: President, Automatic Duck

    November 16, 2009, 4:04 am
Automatic Duck provides solutions for video editors needing to move between applications. To understand what they offer we need to step back in history. When Final Cut Pro appeared on the video scene in 1999 the professional world was entrenched with AVID. TO move an AVID project to Final Cut Pro or from Final Cut Pro to AVID was not a simple process.

Oscars: How Top VFX Pros Brought Baby Groot, Wonde

      December 15, 2017, 10:29 am
Superhero fare — from Thor to Justice League and Logan — swept the visual effects shortlist Dec. 4, while tentpole sci-fi projects, such as Star Wars: The Last Jedi and Blade Runner 2049, also were well represented. THR took a dive into how the VFX teams created some of this year's most imaginative effects, including the beasts, aliens and other out-of-this-world creatures that filled their stories.

Michiel de Ruyter VFX Breakdown by PFX

      December 15, 2017, 5:54 am
Michiel de Ruyter – You might not be familiar with Michiel de Ruyter, but in Holland, he’s a national hero. In the 17th century, he managed to defeat the English and the French at sea, becoming one of the greatest innovators of naval warfare. The film originated in Belgium and PFX was responsible for the computer graphics. Scenes that were once only shots of an empty sea are now filled with majestic, historic ships. The wind in the sails and the crew readying the cannons for their first enemy battle.

Daring Fireball: First Impressions of the New iMac

      December 14, 2017, 6:13 pm
It is significantly more expensive than its non-pro iMac siblings — the iMac Pro starts at $4999, but most configurations will cost significantly more. But make no mistake — if you buy one of these, you’re getting true professional performance for your money. You’re not just getting (admittedly gorgeous) space black anodized aluminum.

      2017 iMac Pro Review

      December 12, 2017, 1:56 pm
There’s an old saying about money burning a hole in one’s pocket. Every once in a while, a product comes along that has a similar but reverse effect on me — it’s a product that’s so compelling, so exciting, so gorgeous to look at, that it causes my wallet to heat up and maybe even burst into flames. The new iMac Pro is one of those products.

New Apple iMac Pro Launch Date

      December 12, 2017, 1:56 pm
Apple only promised two more products for 2017: the iMac Pro and the HomePod. While the company pushed back the HomePod release to 2018, there was no news on the iMac front, and we were starting to get worried we wouldn't see the device anytime soon.

      Deconstructing Woody

      December 12, 2017, 10:05 am
The year was 1976. The place was the New York brownstone of editor Ralph Rosenblum, ACE. And the film was Woody Allen’s Annie Hall, released the following year to wide acclaim and four Oscar wins. One day after work, Allen and Susan E. Morse, ACE — later his main editor, then an assistant editor — found themselves leaving the cutting room at about the same time.
