    Wes Plate: President, Automatic Duck

    November 16, 2009, 4:04 am
Automatic Duck provides solutions for video editors needing to move between applications. To understand what they offer we need to step back in history. When Final Cut Pro appeared on the video scene in 1999 the professional world was entrenched with AVID. TO move an AVID project to Final Cut Pro or from Final Cut Pro to AVID was not a simple process.

      Duck Dodgers to the Rescue

If I said that I had a nasty OMF issue that I have NEVER seen before, and that the DUCK helped me fix it, would you understand what I mean? I said that to my wife after she asked "how’s your day going so far?" and you could hear the silence on the other end when I replied with that above line.

      Apple’s new iFrame codec implementation

      October 28, 2009, 8:25 pm
So recently Apple released specs on a new video format they are calling iFrame. What is it, and how will it affect you, the video professional? As all consumer codecs seem to trickle into the professional space in one way or another, I expect the same to happen with this format.

The Pros and Cons of Fast Scrub

      October 27, 2009, 8:23 pm
If you’re using Avid’s new DX hardware (Nitris or Mojo), then you’ve probably been using "Fast Scrub," perhaps without knowing it. This is a slick new feature that makes the timeline more responsive, by dramatically improving the number of frames displayed as you drag. Fast Scrub offers some of the smoothest timeline performance in the business —

The Avid Screencast is a free podcast about showing you cool (and maybe sometimes not so cool) tricks that apply to pretty much all Avid editing platforms. Whether it’s shiny transitions, workflow improvements or just stuff that’s new and you hopefully didn’t know about before. I’m also thinking of doing a Avid 101 series, but let’s not get ahead.
