    Wes Plate: President, Automatic Duck

    November 16, 2009, 4:04 am
Automatic Duck provides solutions for video editors needing to move between applications. To understand what they offer we need to step back in history. When Final Cut Pro appeared on the video scene in 1999 the professional world was entrenched with AVID. TO move an AVID project to Final Cut Pro or from Final Cut Pro to AVID was not a simple process.

      Post Review AJA KI PRO

      January 4, 2010, 7:18 am
The AJA Ki Pro is a dedicated video recording device. You can use it on set like you would any 4:2:2 deck, connect it to editing software, like Final Cut, or even crash record direct to file. The thing to consider about this device is that it is recording a 4:2:2 video signal directly to a hard drive as Apple Pro Res QuickTime movies...

      Editing the Dark Knight

      January 3, 2010, 7:17 am
In 2005, director Christopher Nolan (Memento, Insomnia) gave an edgy new twist to the Batman franchise with his gritty, realistic Batman Begins. His latest Batman film, The Dark Knight, evokes a similarly gloomy and introspective tone. Starring Christian Bale as the impenetrable Batman, the film also features Heath Ledger as The Joker in a fearlessly sinister performance that redefines the role and has already sparked talk of a posthumous Academy Award.

Back in the day, the last large mainstream facility that I helped design, install and manage was geared towards episodic TV series post. We had several dedicated linear bays, DaVinci film transfer, graphics/VFX and audio mixing suites.

      Year End Wrap Up

      December 31, 2009, 6:10 am
Looking back, maybe we could say 2009 was the year the playing field got a little more level.
