Continuing on an article in the last Pro Video Coalition newsletter, The Basics of Avid Media Composer for a Final Cut Pro Editor, this article will look at a number of other functions and how they differ from Final Cut Pro to Media Composer. One of the main reasons why I’m writing these articles is that Avid offers a free, full-featured demo of Avid Media Composer 4 available for download. When I wrote the first piece that demo was only for 14 days.

Last year I wrote a review of various software-based waveform/vectorscopes. In that review I included my praise and criticism of Adobe OnLocation, though technically it’s a lot more than just simple wave/vector software.

Our world is filled with interactive options, and today’s production, post and graphics companies are embracing all the new content needed for the Web, the iPhone or whatever handheld device you might call your own. It’s a brave new world that is bringing new revenue streams to studios, whose challenge is to ramp up with new or existing gear to create more cost-efficient workflows that don’t skimp on quality or creativity.
