I want to hear from you! All of your highs, lows, gripes, comments, questions - anything and everything that you can throw at me, I want to know! It can only make the book, you and me better at what we do and who wouldn't want that? You can post a comment here for all [...]

Is there a way to keep cameras locked into their s

      December 5, 2012, 3:11 pm
Unfortunately, there isn’t a way to lock the cameras to specific quadrants and believe me, I wish that there were!  I’ve known some people to have “filler” clips/picts that “hold” the A, B, or C spot until that camera comes back on.  However, as you can imagine, it is a lot more work. For the [...]

Working with Avid is sometimes very tongue-in-cheek and the blog will now display those "special moments" we have with Avid in comic form. Enjoy. Kyra

      Where is the ebook?

Just like you, I would love to know the answer to that question!  This has been a year filled with new releases (Thanks Avid!), complimentary reviews and unbearable delays regarding the ebook.  I’ve learned the hard way that the...

How do I delete the black from an Autosequence?

      November 14, 2012, 9:05 pm
Autosequence automatically takes clips and puts them into a sequence at the timecode associated with the clips.  Removing the black (filler) from the sequence would move the clips from their correct timecodes. A better solution might be to select all of the clips in the bin and drag them to the timeline window.  In this...

Can you change the shortcuts on the Avid Fast Menu

      November 7, 2012, 12:55 pm
The Avid Fast Menu between the Splice-in and Overwrite buttons gives you access to the Tool Palette which has some handy functions while editing.  (You can also access the Tool Palette via the Fast Menus above the Source and Record monitors.) You can change the functions and buttons on the Tool Palette by dragging it...

What happens if the clips I want to multigroup hav

      October 24, 2012, 3:05 pm
When you multigroup clips that have a different number of audio tracks, Avid groups them and those groups will contain all of the audio tracks associated with the master clip.  It can be a bit disconcerting to see a multigroup that has audio tracks that fluctuate from group to group but don't worry, Avid will...

How do I remove timeline locators?

You can remove locators from the timeline in two ways.  Select the locator in the timeline and press delete or click the locator in Locators window and press delete.

You add locators by clicking a locator button.  Depending on your settings, the locators window may appear that will allow you type comments associated with that locator.

Can I remove all effects from a sequence?

      October 3, 2012, 3:02 pm
You sure can but it can be a two or three part process.  If you lasso (or shift+click the clips using the Lift/Overwrite Segment Mode tool) around the entire sequence and press delete, it will delete all of the effects in the sequence.  (You can also use the Remove Effect function to delete effects.) However...
