I want to hear from you! All of your highs, lows, gripes, comments, questions - anything and everything that you can throw at me, I want to know! It can only make the book, you and me better at what we do and who wouldn't want that? You can post a comment here for all [...]

Working with Avid is sometimes very tongue-in-cheek and the blog will now display those "special moments" we have with Avid in comic form. Enjoy.

A little itty bitty favor (and free stuff!)

So, I was checking out the book's Amazon.com page and noticed it was a bit, er...lacking in terms of reviews.  It would be amazeballs if anyone who bought the book and has any sort of opinion to post a little diddy on the book's page.  I need all the feedback I can get to make...

What is action safe vs title safe?

      September 5, 2012, 3:09 pm
In today's world with our super wide televisions, we see a lot more information on our screens than many years ago.  Back then it was a big deal to make sure that titles and other important information appeared on the screens of television viewers.  This led to the implementation of the Action Safe and Title...

      Ebook News! (Sorta)

The book's release was almost a year ago (can you believe it?) and I am still chugging away at making the book better. Being a one-man-band, it takes a bit of time and that is why the ebook is just coming out. (Sorry for the wait!) Since thousands of minds are better than one...

Looking at timecode, how can I tell drop frame

      August 22, 2012, 5:52 pm
This questions used to get me every time until someone (I can't remember who or I would give credit) told me drop frame is a semicolon because you "dropped" a period. (You dropped the period and have a comma instead, get it?)  Meaning non drop frame could only be a colon.   Good luck remembering!

How do I save title styles in the Title Tool?

      August 15, 2012, 3:15 pm
This is a great question because I embrace opportunities to reduce redundancies and creating titles can be a very redundant task! Once you create your title exactly as you like, click on the Save Style Parameter menu (the down arrow to the right of the Styles button on the Title Tool toolbar), and then select...

What is the best way to count clips in my bin?

      August 8, 2012, 11:50 am
You know? Even I don't know what may be the proper to way to do it. So whenever I wanted to know, I selected all of the clips and pressed delete. When the delete dialog window appears, it neatly lists for you all of the sequences, master clips, subclips and anything else in your bin...

There are actually (and thankfully) two ways to do this! Before you import the clips, go to the Import Settings in the Project window.  On the Audio Tab, enable the Apply attenuation/gain effect on import and type in a decibel level to apply to all imported clips.   Make sure you type a minus sign before...
