    Anybody want some cake?

Troubleshooting within Avid can be a frustrating venture at best and at its worst, you start looking for a new job in a different career field. Fortunately, it doesn't have to be that way if you have the patience and time to do the right thing by Avid. Working with Avid is akin to baking...

I'm not one to stand on a soapbox but this is sorta important since we are all in this together! There are some folks out there (not naming names) that don't award editors for their contributions to films. Sure, we've got the Academy Awards ACE Eddie Awards but we are sorta important and should...

Working with Avid is sometimes very tongue-in-cheek and the blog will now display those "special moments" we have with Avid in comic form. Enjoy. Kyra

      Sam Kauffmann Book Review

The title of this book says it all. It is a well conceived and executed guide for anyone who is working, or hoping to work as an assistant editor. Although there are many tips and instructions about how to use Avid software, this is not an Avid guidebook. Instead, it rightly focuses on the tasks...

Can you display more than 9 cameras at once

      June 20, 2012, 3:03 pm
You can't display more than 9 cameras at once in a multigroup but if your multigroup has more than 9 cameras you can view the remaining cameras by Swapping the Camera banks. (Command Palette MCamTab: Swap Cam Bank buttin) This allows you to switch from the first set of cameras and view the remaining...

Is there a way to insert tracks into a sequence?

      June 13, 2012, 2:55 pm
Instead of adding clips at the top or bottom of the timeline you can also insert them in between tracks by pressing Alt/Opt and Ctrl/Cmd and Y/U for video and audio tracks.

How do I open 2 sequences at once in Avid?

      June 6, 2012, 4:56 pm
It isn't possible to open two sequences at once when using Avid. However, you can open one sequence in the record monitor (timeline window) and drag another sequence into the source monitor. It is important that you drag the sequence to the source monitor because double clicking a sequence automatically loads it into the record...

How do I copy an effect to multiple clips?

      May 23, 2012, 3:55 pm
Either lasso around those clips or shift and click the clips using the Lift/Overwrite Segment tool to select the clips. Then double click on the effect you want on the clips. You can double click on an effect in the effect palette or a saved effect in your bin. Just make sure, the Lift/Overwrite Segment...

      Book News - Ebook status

      May 16, 2012, 12:02 pm
Before I even get started, let me say this: No, the ebook is not ready. I've gotten a fair amount of emails and requests regarding the ebook and just wanted to give an honest response to how things are going. They're going. I won't bore you with the minutiae but converting a book to an...

      Good Book Tidings

      May 10, 2012, 3:15 pm
I had a good start to my Thursday morning with my first book review! Gordon Burkell, the awesomeness behind the Art of the Guillotine website (www.aotg.com – Do yourself a favor and go there!) was gracious enough to trudge through my 400 page book and write down a few thoughts. Reading about yourself – whether...
