CULVER CITY, CA — In Columbia Pictures’ Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, four high school students discover an old video game console and are drawn into the game's jungle setting. The teens assume the outer form of their game avatars (Dwayne Johnson, Jack Black, Kevin Hart and Karen Gillan), while retaining their adolescent personalities, and contend with a variety of menaces, including oversized hippos, rhinos and elephants.

NEW YORK CITY – On Thursday, January 11th, the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment and the NYC Neighborhood Opportunity Network (NeON) will unveil the Made in NY Animation Project. A new initiative that will reach 1,800 young New Yorkers in all five boroughs this year, the Made in NY Animation Project offers participants the opportunity to engage in storytelling, gain technical skills in 3D computer animation, and qualify for paid internships in this growing field.

CHICAGO — Cutters Studios (http://www.cuttersstudios.com) has promoted Billy Montross to editor. He began his career as a PA for Chicago-based director John Komnenich, and was soon introduced to Cutters editor Tom Brassil. He secured an internship in 2012, and by early 2013, had earned the role of assistant editor, supporting many of the Cutters editors and clients, but primarily working with managing editor Grant Güstafson.

UNIVERSAL CITY, CA — American Cinema Editors (ACE) have announced the nominations for its 68th Annual ACE Eddie Awards. The awards recognize outstanding editing in 10 categories of film, television and documentaries. Winners will be revealed during ACE’s annual black-tie awards ceremony, set to take place on Friday, January 26th in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. They will be presided over by ACE president, Stephen Rivkin, ACE.

LOS ANGELES – One hundred and forty one scores from eligible feature-length motion pictures released in 2017 are in contention for nominations in the Original Score category for the 90th Academy Awards. To be eligible, the original score must be a substantial body of music that serves as original dramatic underscoring, and must be written specifically for the motion picture by the submitting composer.

FREMONT, CA — Blackmagic Design has announced a worldwide training and certification program, along with certified curriculum, for its DaVinci Resolve 14. LONDON — Union VFX (unionvfx.com) provided visual effects services for Victoria & Abdul, the new film directed by Stephen Frears. The film is based on the book of same name about the real-life relationship between Queen Victoria of the United Kingdom and her Indian Muslim servant Abdul Karim. It stars Judi Dench, Ali Fazal, Michael Gambon, Eddie Izzard, Tim Pigott-Smith and Adeel Akhtar and hit theaters in late September.
