For several years a disrupter in the acquisition business, Red Digital Cinema got into distribution late Friday with the announcement of its new Redray 4K Cinema Player. The product release includes a new .RED file format that carries 4K at just 2.5 MB/sec (20 Mbps), the RRencode plug-in for RedCine-X Pro that converts footage to .RED, and the Odemax content distribution platform.

One of the least considered functions at many studios is Digital Asset Management (DAM). More attention needs to be spent on this mostly under-used asset. Many files are created and then unceremoniously dumped into outer space, never to be seen again. However, it doesn't have to be that way; once created, digital assets become a goldmine that just keep giving.

Dutch Broadcast IT service provider ParkPost has integrated two VENICE Media Production Hubs from DVS into the OB vans of its sister company, DutchView. The ParkPost team now benefits from a lean IT infrastructure. The newly equipped OB vans were especially busy during the summer: VENICE was responsible for the ingest of the recorded material at the 2012 UEFA European Football Championship, Tour de France and the Olympic Games that were covered at the RTL "De Zomer Van 4" (Summer of 4)...

In a project that spanned nearly four years and half the globe, Hula Post Production supplied editorial systems and support for Life of Pi - the new 3D film from 20th Century Fox and Academy Award-winning director Ang Lee.
