Senior Lighting TD Salar Saleh joined the Charlex team in the spring of 2010 with a high level of talent and expertise in CG animation. Prior to Charlex, Salar spent eight years at Rhythm & Hues, working on the feature films Fast and Furious, Superman Returns, Happy Feet, and The Chronicles of Narnia.

Canon recently updated their eos plugin for final cut pro to give it much better metadata reading capabilities. Now you have access to the Av, Tv, ISO, Lens, Focal Length, Camera Model name Camera Serial Number, and it give REAL timecode based off the cameras internal clock.

I’ve spoken about speed in the last two posts and how vitally important it is to being a better editor. It’s not just the ability to knock jobs off quickly (though this is of course very important from a business standpoint). There’s a degree to which editing is never really completed, you just down tools at the point where you’re as happy as you can hope to be, given the circumstances. Working fast means...

I’ve been editing on non-linear systems for 12 years. I know both Avid and Final Cut. Each time I learned the process of editing on these platforms I somehow skipped trimming. It wasn’t until I re-learned each NLE that I started to grasp trimming. Once you get clips marked and into the timeline you should never go back to the original clip. All adjustment should be made in the timeline.
