Spike Lee chose one helluva place to tell Terence Blanchard, his composer of 30 years, about his next project, “Da 5 Bloods.” “He told me about it right after the Oscar program [in 2019],” Blanchard tells Gold Derby at our Meet the BTL Experts: Film Composers panel (watch above). “He was standing in the aisle and he said, ‘Hey, man, I’m on a plane tomorrow going to shoot the next film.’ I went, ‘What? Why don’t you take a break, dude? Just sit down and relax.’ And he said, ‘No, man, I gotta get it done.’ And I was like, ‘OK.'”

Nathan McGuinness has over 20 years experience in visual effects. He founded the studio Asylum in 1999 where he has worked on films such as Pearl Harbor, Black Hawk Down, Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. When Asylum closes in 2011, he joins the DNEG team and has worked on projects such as Battleship, Total Recall, Furious 6 and Westworld.
