How to Speed Up or Reverse a Clip in Premiere Pro

      September 13, 2019, 1:02 pm
Once you learn how to speed up and reverse your footage in Premiere Pro, you can use these techniques for creative transitions and visual effects. I use these essential skills often in my own projects, like in this tutorial on creative ways to use whip pan transitions. In one example, I show how to create a fake knife throw and catch, with the blade landing only inches from the talent’s face. To make the illusion work, I combined two shots — one of my talent “throwing” the knife, the other of her “catching” the knife. Each shot uses a whip pan, which serves to mask the edit point and make it look like one continuous shot.

Auto Reframe: a Premiere Pro feature preview

      September 13, 2019, 1:02 pm
At IBC 2019, Adobe plans to demonstrate Auto Reframe, a new time-saving feature coming later this year to Premiere Pro. Auto Reframe intelligently reframes and reformats content for different aspect ratios, from square to vertical to cinematic 16:9 versions. It can be applied as a Transform effect to individual clips, or to whole sequences under the menu. First previewed as Project Smooth Operator at Adobe MAX 2018, Auto Reframe (like Content-Aware Fill for After Effects) is an Adobe Sensei technology that uses AI and machine learning to accelerate manual production tasks, while maintaining creative control with keyframes.

      Automatic Rotoscoping…

      September 12, 2019, 7:43 pm
We’re still a few years away from where machine learning AI can produce rotoscoping that rivals what human artists can achieve (though only a very few), but even today machine learning offers results that are more than adequate for color correction, camera tracking garbage mattes, or temp roto for slap comps while waiting on final outsourced roto. And with just a couple of lines of code you—the unskilled, non-programmer—can have that machine learning goodness at your command. What’s better, you can start to learn a little Python in the process.
