Editing the ACE nominated Molly's Game by Steve Hu

    January 17, 2018, 4:46 am
Aaron Sorkin has long been known for great writing and smart TV drama. On Molly’s Game, he steps into the role of writer/director and collaborated on the project with three editors: Elliot Graham, Alan Baumgarten, ACE and Josh Schaeffer. The film was recently nominated for an ACE Eddie Award for Best Edited Feature Film – Dramatic. For this interview, we talked to Baumgarten and Shaeffer. Baumgarten has edited since the early 1990s on TV series starting with Eerie, Indiana and on features: The Lawnmower Man, Meet the Fockers, The Heartbreak Kid, Zombieland, Joy, and American Hustle (for which he won an ACE EDDIE and was nominated for an Oscar). He also won an Emmy for his work on the series, Recount. Schaeffer has edited numerous features and TV series. He was an additional editor on Kong: Skull Island and is editing the upcoming Pacific Rim: Uprising. The other editor, Elliot Graham, had previously edited the film Steve Jobs, which Sorkin had written, and other films, like Milk, Superman Returns and was additional editor on X-Men 2 and Amazing Spider-man 2.

Secondary Timeline Editing Tip for FCPX

      November 16, 2018, 10:05 am
Most FCPX users know well that getting to grips with the Magnetic Timeline (Primary Storyline) takes some time and effort before one can unlock its full potential. What’s more, there is a myriad of users who have been accustomed to the layout and functionality of the good old FCP 7 who find the FCPX innovative editing workflow too odd and overwhelming, to say the least.

Frame.io now integrates closely with FCP X, potent

      November 16, 2018, 10:05 am
There has always been one aspect of FCP X that has held it back as a modern post production workhorse: third party integration. For a long time now rival NLEs like Premiere Pro have been able to integrate directly with online review services, which allow clients to make comments and highlight areas of a video to suggest modifications or to offer an opinion on the edit.

A Quiet Place Sound Editors Discuss the film

      November 15, 2018, 2:20 pm
On examination of those behind the filmic curtain—creating the sonic palette through which to feel a world—any number of descriptors seem to apply. Magicians, wizards and puppet masters who have trained themselves in the art of emotional manipulation, sound editors are too often among those craftsmen and women taken for granted, when the reality is that no film could function, or pull the audience in toward the screen, without their dedicated, passionate work. The supervising sound editors behind Paramount Pictures’ surprise horror smash A Quiet Place—deftly directed by John Krasinski—Erik Aadal and Ethan Van der Ryn are among those whose contributions are so undeniable that they happen to elevate the craft as a whole.

Adobe Premiere Rush: 5 immediate corrections requi

      November 15, 2018, 10:03 am
Many content producers are excited about Adobe’s new Premiere Rush. That’s the final product name for the code-named Project Rush multiplatform production tool I covered in a prior article, an episode of BeyondPodcasting, and other ProVideo Coalition contributors have covered (links ahead). Now that Premiere Rush is out of beta and officially available for iOS (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch), macOS and Windows (but still pending for Android and Chromebook), Cielo de la Paz of The Storyographist and I have been able to determine five issues that the Adobe Rush team must address immediately, or at least the first four of them.
