RENO, NV — Virtual reality has the potential to become a mainstream technology, but it’s not a level playing field for men and women. An interdisciplinary research team at the University of Nevada, Reno aims to make VR more accessible to women. VR sickness, which can include symptoms like nausea, drowsiness and disorientation, is still considered a major barrier to the mass market success of virtual reality.

LOS ANGELES — The Visual Effects Society (www.visualeffectssociety.com), held its Annual VES Awards on February 5th, recognizing outstanding visual effects artistry and innovation in film, animation, television, commercials, video games and special venues. Comedian Patton Oswalt served as host for the eigth time to the more than 1,000 guests gathered at the Beverly Hilton. The ceremony recognized VFX talent in 24 categories.

BEVERLY HILLS — The 69th Annual ACE Eddie Awards were presented on February 1st, recognizing the best editing of 2018 in 11 categories of film, television and documentaries. The black-tie ceremony was held in the International Ballroom of the Beverly Hilton Hotel with over 1,000 in attendance. Pixomondo (www.pixomondo.com) recently released a breakdown video detailing the studio’s visual effects work on The Girl in the Spider's Web, which is now available digitally and on DVD.
