Review: DaVinci Resolve 16's Cut Page

    May 13, 2019, 5:58 am
The biggest surprise from Blackmagic’s NAB Resolve demo was the addition of a brand-new page called the Cut Page. The new page is intended to simplify and streamline the editing process by removing many of the systematic elements of the edit page. The Cut Page is for those on the go — editors who drop their footage into the timeline then quickly edit, render, and deliver. This isn’t ideal for longer projects, but for short scenes and simple vlogs, the Cut Page is your new home.

At SIGGRAPH in LA this year, Epic Games was privately demo’ing ‘Apollo 11: Mission AR’ experience that was built for the Microsoft HoloLens 2 with Unreal Engine. I tried it out, and it really was incredible.

How JOJO Rabbit's VFX Supervisor Created a Wild Co

      October 22, 2019, 4:10 pm
The most startling visuals in Jojo Rabbit (which opened last Friday) takes the shape of writer-director Taika Waititi dressed up as Adolph Hitler, the imaginary best friend conjured by a German boy (Roman Griffin Davis) during the waning days of World War II. But while “Hitler” commands the foreground, VFX supervisor Jason Chen worked a more subtle brand of filmmaking magic by using digital tools to seamlessly build out Jojo’s world. Chen says, “The shots were filmed on actual ruins in the Czech Republic left over from World War II, but then we would place blue screens on the edge of the sets and extend them out.”

      The Pursuit (feat. Josh Meyers)

      October 22, 2019, 1:14 pm
Ever want to cut a whole feature length doc in FCPX? Yea… it can be done alright. Josh Meyers his head of Post Production at Emergent Order in Austin Texas and has vast experience with both Premier and FCPX. EO has cut docs in both and Josh’s insight is interesting. As always, we diverged into a lot of other topics, light the “Fight against Marginalization” and On-boarding new editors to work in FCPX.

      Instagram for Artists

      October 22, 2019, 1:12 pm
Welcome to Episode 217! One of the things I will be talking a lot down the road is building your personal brand. I think there is nothing more important than networking and building your brand. I just interviewed an expert on the topic. I wanted to talk specifically about Instagram: my experience of growing from 0 to 50K. I want to talk a lot about Instagram because it’s the perfect medium for artists and other creatives.

Glowing Results: Grading Skin Tones in Resolve

      October 22, 2019, 1:10 pm
First, you need to isolate the skin with a selection so you can work with it without affecting the rest of the image. Then, you can even out the skin, unifying the tone so it’s a universal color, without making the person look like they’re wearing too much foundation. Next, decrease the mid-tone density so that small imperfections disappear. Finally, add a layer mixer node so that the skin color you’ve just worked on is protected from other grades you might make. Let’s look at them in turn.

51 FREE Eye-Catching Accent Animation Motion Graph

      October 22, 2019, 1:10 pm
Most of the time, those little extra touches are things like really small details and additional motion in small portions of the scene. These are things that the viewers might not even fully notice but, when added as part of a whole, these accents and animations can really bring your work to a whole new level.
