Creating rolling credits at the end of a film has never been one of my favorite things to do. Let’s face it when finishing film in FCP7 it was just plain painful at times. Well luckily SugarFX realized this and gave a a beautiful plugin for FCPX known as Rolling Credits.
Rolling Credits is a set of text generators that allow you to create movie credits with ease. You begin by typing out all your credits in a simple text file. There are some text protocols needed to help the program understand where, and how you would like the spacing. However these are relatively easy to add in as well. You begin by adding [TTL] for the title of the credits. By hitting enter you are telling the Rolling Credits plugin there is a new line of text. Now if you need to add 2 columns like most standard rolling credits, you must add 2 ** between title and name. For Instance:
Jumping back into FCPX, select the Theme,or layout you wish to have for your rolling credits, and drag it to your timeline. Once added you can import your text file to Rolling Credits by hitting Command Option.
Once you have your text file imported you can change different variables of the credits which include fonts, line spacing, column separation, and many other attributes in the inspector window. Already I was impressed at how much easier, and more flexible this workflow is for creating rolling credits.
Another plaguing issue creating rolling credits was durations. Often they must match music for the film, or even move at a slower pace so the audience can read everyone’s contribution to the film. Well, this could not be any easier with Rolling Credits. All that needs to be done is simply drag the clip longer or shorter, or hot Control D, to change the overall duration. This has never been so easy!
Rolling Credits is a very powerful plugin for FCPX. It really makes the often difficult task of creating end credits for a film, incredibly easy and very professional looking. There are so many variables that can be adapted to your specific film, plus a nice wide selection of themes to customize. All these features for a mere $49 is simply a no brainer. It will save you time and money.
