This week I jump back into FCPX with a new color grading plug-in called Hawaiki Color available in FX Factory. This latest plug-in found within the widely known FX Factory provides you with the tools needed to create your custom look. The user interface has a very unique custom feel. The Large color wheels are very familiar to those who have upgraded from FCP7. The user interface allows you to change the color temperature, exposure, saturation, hue, contrast, blur, and sharpness.
The inspector has several other features to help you get the look you need. There are controls for customizing the user interface. There are also further sliders for customizing the strength of the color wheels. Within the inspector you can also find sliders to tweak all the various variables such as the Magenta.
Working with Hawaiki Color is very simple for any one coming from FCP7 or any type of color grading tool. Immediately I felt at home working with the color wheels. I was able to take a shot that had the incorrect white balance, and cool the temperature down while adding more blues to my shot to give it a more winter look as opposed to the warm original shot.
Hawaiki Color integrates really well into FCPX with it simple and cleanly laid out interface, its hard to believe it’s a plugin. Hawaiki Color provides you with all the tools necessary to accomplish the look you are need. It also allows you to salvage some shots that just need some minor grading. If you are looking for a color grading tool for FCPX this may be the one for you.
