To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

New Final Cut Pro Is Real, And It's Spectacul

Because it seems like it’s Apple rumor day I’d thought I’d throw my (very small) hat in the ring. More than a year has passed since Final Cut Pro’s last release and we’ve seen two reported Steve Jobs emails talking up a product that many thought Apple had given up on ("Stay tuned and buckle up." and "Next release will be awesome.") but no product itself. This might change soon however, as we’re hearing that the highly anticipated revamped release of Final Cut Pro is imminent.

While in California producing some commercials for a New York ad agency, Michael Kahn was offered a job at Desilu, the production company owned and run by television stars Desi Arnaz and Lucille Ball. "I was the male secretary for a fellow named Dann Cahn," comments the three-time Academy Award-winning film editor who assisted the editorial supervisor responsible for the celebrated comedy TV series I Love Lucy (CBS, 1951 to 1957). "Eventually, he said, 'If...

While the actual protests started small in Cairo they quickly escalated into a historical event with regional and global implications. FRONTLINE's senior editorial team kept a close eye on events as that first week unfolded and the movement swelled. On Saturday January 29th the decision was made to send in a FRONTLINE production team to pull together a yet-to-be produced program about the revolution in Egypt. With only a three week turnaround (FRONTLINE programming usually takes six to twelve...

Movie trailers can sometimes confuse the viewer because they may contain gaps in them that the filmmaker has left there, thinking that these will make sense to the viewer. However, if the viewer is not well informed about the movie, the gaps will only end up confusing him. As a filmmaker, you should know how to edit movie trailers so that those gaps make sense to all kinds of viewers. A good movie trailer must represent the overall tone of your movie. Here is a look at the steps that you will...

Panasonic Beefs Up P2, 3D Workflow Options

February 22, 2011, 08:07 PM

Panasonic Solutions beefed up 3D options at its annual pre-NAB press event, held earlier today in New York City, announcing a new P2 deck that, in tandem with a second unit, can enable high-quality 3D recording, as well as options in stereo 3D switching, and 24p shooting. The company also brought the always-welcome news of price cuts on its line of P2 media, effective immediately, but there were no entirely new cameras on offer. Those announcements, officials strongly hinted, will be...
