To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Add Virtual Cuts to a Clip Based on the Tracks

Ever needed to add cuts to a clip at the edit points of each shot inside that clip? Yeah, me too. I’m sure this has uses outside of the feature film world, but since features are what I know, I’ll explain this using an example from doing a DI.

OSCAR GUIDE: Best Film Editing

I’m afraid you’ll find that I’m having trouble getting all that excited about this year’s race for Best Film Editing. How can I when the absolute best editing job of the year (from a true master, no less) was shunned altogether, while a cruel joke was played in the form of "Inception" editor Lee Smith getting the shaft, too.

Quoted on a job in the last week. A good deal for the client, a good job for me. I was tentatively booked and asked to find someone else to do second camera. Everything lined up, ready to move on the job.

Sony Vegas Pro 10 Mini Review

I’m going to do something I don’t think I’ve ever done before. I am going to highly recommend a program that runs only on Windows. In fact, I am going to recommend a program that’s so good, I bought an HP laptop running Windows 7 JUST so I could run Sony VEGAS’ Professional NLE. Nobody is more shocked than me.

Change multiple FCP audio clip levels at once

This Reader Quicktip comes from Matt Larson and is sort of a workaround for Final Cut Pro lack of ability to change source audio parameters of multiple clips at once. It’s the kind of thing that can come in very handy when you have a very full bin of clips and changing them one at a time isn’t an option.

My special thanks to Edgar Burcksen for a great review of Avid Agility in the American Cinema Editor’s magazine, CinemaEditor. Hot off the presses, the latest issue was distributed at A.C.E.’s terrific Eddie Awards ceremony Saturday night and should be in members’ mailboxes and on select newsstands shortly. My heartfelt congratulations to all the winners and honorees, including Burcksen himself, who, along with Vincent Lo Brutto, took home the Robert Wise Award for writing about editing.

G-Technology G-RAID 4TB

The most noticeable attribute about G-Technology's G-RAID 4TB is how aesthetically pleasing it is to the eye. With its aluminum casing and familiar glowing white light to indicate that it is running, the G-RAID blends effortlessly with any member of the Mac family, especially the Mac Pro.

Longtime Tim Burton editor Chris Lebenzon talked about Frankenweenie at the ACE Eddie Awards. He says they are currently storyboarding the film, which will be shot in stop-motion format, in black-and-white, and in 3D.
