To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Publisher Gremese Editore will bring out my second book, Film Editing: Great Cuts Every Filmmaker and Movie Lover Must Know in Italian in the next 6-12 months. It will beat the Mandarin Chinese edition by a few months. Editing pictures speaks a universal language and I am proud of all of us editors/editores for that.

One of the most simple, handy Quicktips ever

This Quicktip is a bit off the topic of editing and post-production but it’s a simple tip for Sunday and it can probably be utilized by most any editor who has a desk and has a lot of wires snaking up and around the desk. Credit for finding this one goes to Shane Ross of Little Frog in Hi-Def. He actually found it on Digg and his Twitter comment said it all: Why the hell didn’t I think of this?

'Social,' 'Alice' win ACE awar

Alright, so I should have gone with what I said was the safe bet for the ACE drama Eddie. Rather than making history by awarding a film not nominated for the editing Oscar and giving it to the truly deserving contender, "Inception," the editors decided to rethink it and go with "The Social Network" instead. Fair enough.

The software suite

The power of modern desktop editing solutions is often in the aggregate of the parts and not just the core editing application. Apple Final Cut Studio and Adobe CS5 Production Premium (or Master Collection) are certainly recognized as software suites, but this is also true of Avid Media Composer, especially when you add the Production Studio bundle of third party software.

Alexa Log C - Workflow Options

These past few months, it's been all about the Alexa. Now that there's a healthy amount of them in the rental market, they're popping up all over the place. I can't speak for other people but for me, all of the jobs that would have been RED three months ago are now Alexa. What happened?
