To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell
Aotg.com Founder

Over at Creative Cow there is a warning blog post about using Canon’s EOS Log & Transfer plugin in cases where the project will be moved between machines...apparently this can result in a major relinking issue. You should probably read this.

Anne McCabe Steps To The Ledge

Anne McCabe has edited comedies (Greg Mottola’s Adventureland) and dramas (Joshua Marston’s Maria Full of Grace), but with Matthew Chapman’s The Ledge, debuting at Sundance, she has made her move into the thriller genre. The Ledge isn’t your typical thriller, though, as it involves not only suspense, but romance—plus an examination of religious faith and atheism (two subjects that aren’t often explored in the thriller genre). The film starts as Gavin (Charlie Hunnam) is about to step...

Apply multiple FCP bin comments at once

This is one of my favorite little gems when logging clips in Final Cut Pro. When using list view in the FCP Browser you can right + click (or control + click) on a single button mouse to apply different types of column criteria to multiple FCP clips at once. It’s not just for Master Comment columns either but quite a few other user selectable columns as well.

"I am a Avid Final Cut Ho"

There is a sickness amongst people in the post production industry and I think it’s time we put a stop to it. It must be due to our lack of sunlight or the radioactive waves from the devices Steve Jobs hypnotized us into buying or our sheer jealousy of Mark Zuckerberg rotting our brains. Somewhere along the line we all became a bunch of fanboys. Don’t agree?

Cinemon mp4 XDCAM Workflow Accelerator Plugin

February 1, 2011, 09:12 AM

http://www.freshdv.com/2011/01/cinemon-xdcam.html

Noticed this on the Sony website today, Cinemon is a $100 plugin for FCP that enables direct playback and editing of XDCAM .mp4 files within FCP. From how I understand it, this Cinemon plugin would avoid the hassle of the XDCAM Log & Transfer Quicktime transcode & re-wrapping process, and you could then edit XDCAM footage directly from the cards if necessary (thinking News or almost-live applications). Probably not a workflow that most users will embrace, but I can certainly see applications...
