It is that time of year again, the Toronto International Film Festival is upon us. This also means its time for our annual TIFF Pub Night. The event is co-hosted with Gordon Burkell from Art of the Guillotine one of the largest post – production websites.

Last year was a huge success as we had attendees from both the film and broadcast side, which included Producers and Editors from CTV, MTV, Teletoon, Corus, Astral, Bell, as well as renowned film editor Michael Doherty.

This year the event will be held at 6pm on Sept 9 2010 at Jack Astor’s at Younge Dundas in the heart of the city. There will be appetizers as well as raffles for prizes.

This year’s grand prize is a gift certificate graciously sponsored by Vistek.

If you plan on attending please RSVP to info@behindthecut.com or leave a comment below, as there is limited seating.

Let’s make this year bigger and better than the last!

Special thanks to Producer Jennifer Connolly for helping coordinate our 2010 TIFF Pub Night.

Schwartz on Veep, The Good Place and Arrested Deve

      April 23, 2019, 6:15 am
There is a playful exuberance to composer David Schwartz‘s work. PremiumBeat sat down with the man behind Arrested Development, Veep, and the The Good Place to talk about edgy, smart comedy — and why it’s important to score what’s not on the screen.

Never Underestimate The Power & Impact Of Simple G

      April 23, 2019, 6:14 am
In this free video tutorial, brought to you with the support of Waves, we show you how to setup a simple gated reverb plug-in chain. Gated reverbs are a great way getting instant power and impact in a mix without lengthy reverb tails muddying up the entire mix. In this video we show you how to not only setup the gated reverb on an effects return but also how to change the tone and attitude of the send that feeds the overall gated reverb effect. Gated reverbs lend themselves very nicely to snare tracks, watch this free video to hear this effect in action using Waves GTR Stomp Boxes and C1 Gate.

      April 23, 2019, 6:14 am
It was a pretty quiet year as far as new cameras go, but that meant that some other technologies took center stage at NAB 2019. Let’s take a closer look.

Thunderbolt storage - made bigger and faster

      April 23, 2019, 6:14 am
One of the eternal rules in production and post production is that media will always expand to fill the space you allocate it + a bit more. There is always too much, and individual operators and small to medium post houses have tended to struggle on with NAS devices as they don’t have the room nor the budget for rack system storage.

FCP Fans Rejoice Hedge Acquires Postlab

      April 23, 2019, 6:14 am
Postlab is one of those applications that really checks off all the major boxes of a startup. Developed in-house at a Dutch broadcasting company, it was built by people who themselves were struggling with the problem it set out to solve. It's a solution to a pain point—helping FCP-X users share libraries with groups and maintain version control.

SHAZAM! Editor on Balancing Horror and Comedy

      April 19, 2019, 12:37 pm
Just like director David F. Sandberg, editor Michel Aller came into Shazam! from the horror genre. But as odd a transition as that may seem, going from editing films like The Nun and Annabelle: Creation to editing this year’s most joyful superhero movie was pretty seamless for Aller.
