It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

At the heart of every modern computer is the CPU – the central processing unit. For several decades the CPU has been the main focus of the computer, with the name of the CPU sometimes used as the name for the computer itself. In the 1990s Windows users were introduced to the “Pentium”, and Apple would go on to release a range of G3, G4 and G5 computers. The CPU has become synonymous with the actual computer, the definitive part of the machine.

If anyone knows Martin Scorsese, it's Thelma Schoonmaker. Schoonmaker has worked with the director since 1980's "Raging Bull," which won her the first of three Academy Awards, along with six additional nominations. Most recently, she won in 2007 for "The Departed." In this

Some of the pre-release buzz around The Irishman was … skeptical. Yes, director Martin Scorsese remains one of the most celebrated filmmakers in the world, but wasn’t he repeating himself by making another mob movie starring Robert De Niro? How could he justify a three-and-a-half-hour running time? And what about reports that the film was using de-aging techniques to allow De Niro, Joe Pesci and Al Pacino to play younger versions of their characters in the film? Was Scorsese’s character-an...

As long as there have been cables, there’s been someone willing to take a cable, dip it in liquid nitrogen and polish it on a maiden’s knee, then sell it for 17 times the going rate. This sort of chicanery serves to make most people cautious about different and expensive cables bearing extravagant claims of specialness, usually quite rightly.

The DaVinci Resolve to AVID round trip is an industry-standard workflow used by many professional DITs, assistant editors, and post houses. This tutorial is ideal for assistant editors who are beginning an assembly of a show while production is still underway. This process uses DaVinci Resolve to create master clips that you can ingest in AVID, without consolidating or transcoding your media. This is because the proxies you’ll create in DaVinci Resolve are in the MXF OP-Atom codec, which allow...
