To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Do You Know These Pro Tools Shortcuts

July 31, 2018, 06:42 AM

Command Focus shortcuts in Pro Tools are a set of keystrokes which exist in addition to the standard Pro Tools shortcuts. They offer potential speed increases as they are single keystrokes rather than the more common “modifier + something” format of many of the standard keystrokes. Their focus (no pun intended) is on the common operations an editor will perform over and over again during a session.

Updating Archiving Practices

This is really important, so let me get right to the point: Your Digital media archiving must be managed. Apple is completing the transition from 32-bit to 64-bit hardware and software that it began 15 years ago. This means that at some point in the near future, older 32-bit applications and media files won’t open on current systems. To prevent losing access to our archiving history, we need to convert older legacy media files into a current 64-bit codecs.

Master Speed Ramping in Premiere Pro

Even if you don't know what speed ramping is, you've definitely seen it in countless videos. All those moments when, I don't know, a snowboarder approaches the top of a halfpipe at full speed and then all of a sudden, boom, time slows way down so you can see their body flipping and twirling and corkscrewing gracefully in midair. Yeah, that's speed ramping, or time remapping, when you speed up and slow down a clip.

MCU Countdown #20: Ant-Man and the Wasp

Ant-Man and the Wasp is the final film in our MCU Countdown, and the latest film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. We still have to wait another 9 1/2 months to find out what happens to all our beloved heroes after the snap felt ’round the world, but in the mean time, Marvel is giving us something lighter to ease the pain we’ve been feeling since the end of April. At least it was lighter, until THAT post-credit sequence, but I’m not going to get into that for the sake of spoilers.
