To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

You probably recognize the THX logo, but you absolutely recognize THX’s sound. The high-end audio company, known for putting its stamp of approval on everything from movie theater screens to headphones, developed its “Deep Note” audio trademark in 1982. It’s a computer-generated glissando, which smears together several octaves of pitches until, at the last moment, they find a harmony that kicks you in the gut. The Deep Note has become an unmistakable part of the movie-going experience—...

Filmmaker Mode Hopes to End Motion Smoothing

We’ve talked about motion smoothing before. Technically Tom Cruise has, and we talked about that in turn, but either way the upshot is that it is deeply unpopular with filmmakers. It’s great for high speed action such as sports, not so much for anything that wants to look like it was shot at 24 frames per second. And, perhaps more importantly, it is something of a tricky beast to get rid of.

Sound Devices MixPre II Series

Sound Devices has made some pretty exciting announcements about their MixPre II series of audio recorders. First things first: Sound Devices is now including the AC wall power supply with the MixPre II series. Thank you. It's no longer an optional purchase; it comes in the box. This small thing alone makes me happy. It's crushing the number of accessories you have to buy some times to get a piece of gear production-ready. But there's much more than that to sink your teeth into.

The HBO comedy follows the titular hitman as he tries to leave behind a life of crime to pursue Hollywood dreams. But Barry, played by showrunner Bill Hader, can’t escape his handler Fuches (Stephen Root) or the Chechen crime family run by hapless NoHo Hank (Anthony Carrigan), even as he tries to focus on his relationships with girlfriend Sally (Sarah Goldberg) and acting teacher Gene Cousineau (Henry Winkler).
