To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Freddie Mercury biopic Bohemian Rhapsody “is the classic narrative arc of alienated artist and inflated ego, who is then humbled and who finally brings the band back together for triumphal come back,” the film’s editor John Ottman, ACE told IBC365.

Watching movies can certainly be an emotional experience, but so can making them. When people pour their heart and soul into their job it can be emotionally taxing. Sometimes, however, your co-workers just drive you to break down. That's apparently what happened to John Ottman, the editor on the Tom Cruise World War II drama Valkyrie. Apparently, the star would come in and work with Ottman in the editing room, then writer Christopher McQuarrie would come and make changes to what Cruise had done,...

Before we get to the list, let’s acknowledge the elephant in the room. Film Riot, Peter McKinnon, and . . . I guess . . . Philip Bloom(?) are nowhere on this list. Yes, they all have big, creative, popular YouTube channels. But while they have millions of subscribers, this list is about some of the smaller channels that are just as good — if not better. So, without further ado, here are my personal favorite channels of 2019.

HitFilm Pro is known for its easy to use interface. The software was designed to be intuitive and easy to use from the very beginning, and in its Express version made for an entirely free way to get a very capable NLE. However as a professional editing system HitFilm could often be seen to be overlooked in favour of certain rivals such as Resolve and Premiere. In some ways though HitFilm it is a very poorly kept secret. It does after all have a user base of 3.2 million users, which is nothing to...

It isn’t always appropriate to spend £30k on a grading monitor. Lower-budget productions may well be graded in a small suite – often doubling as the edit suite – with no cash available for high-end equipment. One option for these small suites is a monitor that sits halfway between a full grading unit and one designed for photography and print. The BenQ PV270 is a 27in post-production grading monitor with DVI-DP, HDMI 1.4 and DisplayPort 1.2 inputs, but none of the I/O associated with high...

Much has been written about Rami Malek’s electrifying performance as Queen frontman Freddie Mercury in Fox’s acclaimed biopic “Bohemian Rhapsody.” However, Malek’s portrayal of the charismatic musician wouldn’t have been quite as striking without the work of the movie’s sound editing and mixing teams. The Envelope caught up with sound and music editor John Warhurst, sound editor Nina Hartstone, sound mixer Paul Massey, re-recording mixer Tim Cavagin and sound mixer John Casali earl...
