It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Alonso told me afterward that the Marvel method is to emphasize character and theme, not superhero convention, and that's how Marvel has managed to thrive and stay ahead of the curve and avoid superhero fatigue. It began with the off-beat hiring of Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. But Alonso's lone female point of view has been pivotal. She implored the VFX community to employ more women to counteract the predominant male points of view.

Victoria Alonso, Marvel Studios’ exuberant EVP of visual effects and post production, told a roomful of VFX industry leaders this morning that it needs to invite more women into the industry, and onto the stage. And for entertainment industry newcomers trying to find their way into the business, she had simple advice: “fill the gap.”

Caches are a key part of any computer system and effectively are temporary stores designed to retrieve data quickly. For example, browsers use them so you don’t have to keep downloading the same images again and again and caching appears in two places in Pro Tools disk caching in Pro Tols HD and Wave Caches for the waveforms in the clips.

Red Giant has created one of the simplest and seemingly fool-proof tools with Offload, which can not only back up footage in multiple places at once, but also provides checksum verification to ensure that the information copied matches what was on the card. While tools like ShotPut Pro have been pretty standard for a number of years, Offload at $50 for the full version is coming in at about half the price of ShotPut (though if you're doing this work professionally they are both very inexpensive ...

On the show, Bill Cosby played a secret agent. Never before had a black man held a leading role on an American television drama. Casting Cosby was viewed as revolutionary — and controversial. But another revolution began the day Cosby came face-to-face with his stunt double — a white man who had been painted black. They not only painted the man, they used a hue of makeup that didn’t even come close to Cosby’s brown skin color, as Cosby recalled to an audience at the 2008 Black Stuntmen...

David Fincher’s Gone Girl, which opened Oct. 3 to rave reviews and has secured the top spot at the box office the past two weekends, is the first major Hollywood feature film cut entirely in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The post-production company made the decision switch from Final Cut Pro and use Premiere Pro CC because of its tight integration between Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, which allowed multiple editors and VFX artists to work on the same project. And, Premiere Pro CC was able to ...

Last week, Adobe held their MAX event to announce some cool new creative tools. At the keynote, they put me up on the big screen as an example of how Lightroom's cloud syncing legitimizes mobile photography. Wanna see? It's right at the head of the section on mobile apps.

A long time ago I put quite a lot of time into learning Photoshop. I’m thoroughly behind the times now but the basics haven’t changed since then.

Those lazy, hazy crazy days of picnics and BBQs are now behind us, friends, but that doesn’t mean we can’t find respite in the otherworldly offerings making their way to the multiplex. In this roundup of upcoming animated and visual effects-laden films, there’s actually a fair number of original concepts amidst the remakes and sequels to popular franchises. In short, something for one and all.
