To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

FCP X Quick Tip: Capturing Footage Via Firewire

Final Cut Pro X will automatically create a new clip every time it senses a break in the footage. This is usually fine if the source was a newer/cleaner camera. It’s a big problem when capturing from an older source.

In part one of this article I asked about the value of channel strips and in particular the Avid Channel Strip, I promised in part two to say what I like and dislike about the Avid Channel Strip, so here goes!

We’ve just started a series on the value of channel strip plug-ins in the modern recording set-up, so it might be good to know what AAX channel strip plug-ins are worth taking a look at. Shortly after the release of 10.1, and quite unexpectedly, Apple has just announced that 10.1.1 is available for download. The new patch does not include any new features - it's all about bug fixes and resolving stability issues. Yet it's good news nonetheless that Apple responds to problems reported by FCPX users that quick. There are more issues though, and we hope to see next update soon.

The Academy Awards were announced early on January 16, and the movies that won the most nominations were Gravity and American Hustle. There’s already been backlashes against both movies, with some considering them over-rated, but the Motion Picture Academy sure didn’t think so, giving ten nominations to each.

New Mac Pro Vs. Old Mac Pro For Sound

I got my hands on the new Mac Pro this week, it’s hard not to be wooed by the cute (it’s very small) little powerhouse, it was an almost religious experience for this Mac fanboy.

Just kidding. We at Dolby won’t get to give an Oscars acceptance speech this year (though our company and employees have won a few Academy Awards in the past). Nonetheless, we were very proud when the Oscar nominations were announced this morning.

QLogic Enables Fusion-io

Most SAN storage providers making hybrid or all-SSD flash appliances would like to captivate their customers with the promise of application acceleration. The operative word here is captive. Fusion-io is breaking that model with ION Data Accelerator software. Now a customer server, paired with ioMemory devices, combines to make a very powerful shared flash storage appliance.

Apple now shipping the Mac Pro to Europe

January 12, 2014, 09:48 AM

http://9to5mac.com/2014/01/12/apple-now-shipping-t...

Since March, the old Mac Pro has not been available to buy in Europe as changes in regulations meant that the old Mac Pro no longer complied with EU law. In particular, the large exposed fans of the Mac Pro were the main reason behind the ban — the amendment required fan guards and minor changes to electrical ports.
