It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Few horror movies have gripped moviegoers this year quite like A Quiet Place, director John Krasinski’s tale of a world where making too loud a noise will lead to your death at the claws of strange creatures with super-sensitive hearing.

With each superhero movie released, visual effects artists seem to find more and more ways to leverage the power of Houdini to deliver original imagery. That might be via destruction, weapons effects, character-related simulations or vegetation. In the case of Ryan Coogler’s Black Panther, Houdini was used for all of those things - and more.

Over the years there have been a growing number of Pro Tools users who have felt at some point that Pro Tools has been playing a long game of catch up when it comes to introducing “new” features. When I refer to “new” I mean features that are new to Pro Tools, not innovative new features that haven't been seen before in other DAWs.

I think you could make a solid argument for a subscription to MasterClass being a reasonable expense for any creative person's professional development. In this post I take a look at the All-Access pass, what's great about it, what you need to know to get the most out of it and what are some of the best courses that Masterclass.com has to offer

The internet is currently obsessed with one of those rather tedious internet memes, following on from “Is this a blue/black or white/gold dress”, this time it’s ”Can you hear Yanny or Laurel?”

Gigantic Studios, a post-production house in New York City, recently built a dual-purpose room for both sound mixing and colour correction. When the room is in sound mixing mode, it is a dual-operator 5.1, 7.1 and Dolby Atmos cinema mixing studio, nothing revolutionary there, the innovation comes in the form the floor sliding away to reveal a pit, allowing the mixers to work standing up whilst retaining an unobstructed view of the screen for both editors and clients alike.

For those filmmakers and other creatives who are on the outside and looking to get in, talent agents have traditionally been thought of as the gatekeepers to the kingdom, the ones who, with a word, can deliver a career. Of course, it's not that simple, and while they're becoming increasingly more influential in the film business, many people still don't have a great idea of what an agent's role actually is.
