It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

VFX Legion created over 200 visual effects for ‘Black Box,’ one of the series of films in the ‘Welcome to Blumhouse’ anthology that tapped the LA/B.C.-based company’s end-to-end services. The thematically connected package of dark genre movies marks Amazon‘s first-ever global direct to services deal.

Welcome to my review of the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor. Hardware products designed to supplement and speed up video editing used to be quite rare. In the last few years, there have been quite a few to come along and I have reviewed many here on the Editblog.

Izotope's RX series has been an essential part of our post production process for many years. Since RX 3 we've been de-crackling, de-noising, de-humming and de-reverbing our field interviews with this powerful tool. Every interview track gets an Izotope pass in post as part of our sweetening process to ensure we're releasing the best possible audio mix with all of our content.

A new episode of the Chaos Group audio podcast is online . On the menu, an interview with Bilali Mack, VFX supervisor working on films and series ( Power Book II: Ghost, One of ours ). The interview evokes in particular the tool Flame of Autodesk, the way in which Bilali Mack directs smoke and blood in the service of the narration.

I am often asked about transferring VHS or another format to MP4. Since my typical transfer job for a customer is usually to convert a lot of videos to either DVD or USB, I need to carefully consider the most efficient way to do this. One approach is to use a simple interface between the VHS deck and my computer. A device like the”Video 2 PC” converter from Ion enables you to bring the tape into your computer. But you can only do one at a time. Some of the tapes, however, are six hours long....

While the chief goal of the Snyder Cut movement was to get director Zack Snyder’s fully realized vision for Justice League out to the masses, it also did some good for charity along the way. Fans have raised a lot of money for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in honor of Zack Snyder’s late daughter Autumn, and continue to do so even with Zack Snyder’s Justice League on course for a 2021 release. Now the filmmaker has once again thanked those who have donated money to this wor...

George Clooney’s The Midnight Sky, now streaming on Netflix, follows action both on Earth (in the Arctic) and in space (mainly on the spacecraft Æther). The filmmakers looked to new virtual production methods, in particular LED walls using ILM’s StageCraft technology set up at Shepperton Studios, to help realize icy Arctic environments.

Apple’s ARM-based M1 Macs have definitely conquered the computing and tech news, at least until Cyberpunk 2077’s disastrous launch took over. The chip’s power and capabilities have definitely impressed both users and pundits but all that is for naught if apps don’t take advantage of it.
