To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Offload from Red Giant

http://nofilmschool.com/2014/10/offload-red-giant-...

Red Giant has created one of the simplest and seemingly fool-proof tools with Offload, which can not only back up footage in multiple places at once, but also provides checksum verification to ensure that the information copied matches what was on the card. While tools like ShotPut Pro have been pretty standard for a number of years, Offload at $50 for the full version is coming in at about half the price of ShotPut (though if you're doing this work professionally they are both very inexpensive ...

The Stuntmen Who Blacklisted Blackface

On the show, Bill Cosby played a secret agent. Never before had a black man held a leading role on an American television drama. Casting Cosby was viewed as revolutionary — and controversial. But another revolution began the day Cosby came face-to-face with his stunt double — a white man who had been painted black. They not only painted the man, they used a hue of makeup that didn’t even come close to Cosby’s brown skin color, as Cosby recalled to an audience at the 2008 Black Stuntmen...

Jeffrey Katzenberg celebrated Dreamworks Animation’s 20th anniversary, replete with a cake and an audience rendition of Happy Birthday, at the BFI London Film Festival as he gave this year’s annual industry keynote. An emotional and characteristically passionate Katzenberg recalled his rise from “a gofer for Barry Diller” at Paramount at the age of 23, to joining Steven Spielberg and David Geffen for the launch of Dreamworks SKG in 1994.

LYON – Martin Scorsese has influenced generations of new filmmakers. But who and what films influenced Scorsese? One front-runner: “The Tales of Hoffmann,” Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger’s 1951 adaptation of Jacques Offenbach’s opera, which liberated the duo from the constraints of early 1950s’ sound cinema.

Gone Girl Marks First Hollywood Film Cut Entirely

David Fincher’s Gone Girl, which opened Oct. 3 to rave reviews and has secured the top spot at the box office the past two weekends, is the first major Hollywood feature film cut entirely in Adobe Premiere Pro CC. The post-production company made the decision switch from Final Cut Pro and use Premiere Pro CC because of its tight integration between Premiere Pro CC and After Effects CC, which allowed multiple editors and VFX artists to work on the same project. And, Premiere Pro CC was able to ...

7 Great Techniques for Hiding Lav Microphones

This fantastic video from Izzy Hyman is great not just for filmmaking, but for any time you need to mic somebody up and the lav can't be in the shot. I'm not a huge fan of lavs, even less so when they have to be hidden, but if you shoot video, or you're getting into audio, at some point you're going to have to do some of these techniques. The triangle tape trick has been one of the most useful to me, and if you've never seen it or used it before, you should absolutely try it the next time you ne...
