It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

I first met Tim Chandler when I started the blog over 5 years ago. I had been invited to the Digidesign UK headquarters by a couple of the guys who had seen the first couple of weeks of the blog to see if they could help support me.

Here’s a story we all love. It’s the one where the hero works long hours at a tedious job to pay the bills, but every penny, every free minute, every lunch break and day off and late night, is spent dreaming and working and building a secret masterpiece. This is Henry Darger’s story, and Vivian Maier’s, and James Hampton’s.

The Pixar slump is real? The phenomenal film company that became a model for both box-office and critical success is experiencing hard times. While their films are still making money, the alleged lack of original ideas seems disturbing for some.

Frequent readers of our site are likely familiar with the work of the Film Unit over at Saturday Night Live. On multiple occasions, we’ve covered the work of the Film Unit DP Alex Buono, most recently as he talked us through his work on the Wes Anderson parody, The Midnight Coterie of Sinister Intruders.

When ARRI released information about their ENG-style, “documentary” camera, AMIRA, there were several reasons for filmmakers to get excited, like its lower price point and the promise of ALEXA-level image quality. Another great feature is the ability to import custom 3D LUTs, and now, ARRI has sweetened that deal by offering a free grading program called the AMIRA Color Tool, which lets users “create, extract, and organize” AMIRA Look files, and then export them for in-camera use.

If you missed a recent podcast then you may have missed one of the rants. There’s never been more choice, more compressors, more reverbs, more nostalgia, more gates, more synths, more pitch trickster, denoisers, apps, snaps, renoisers, blippers, tweakers, twonkers… you get the idea, I think the only person yet to release another DAW is my Mum.
