It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Charles Yeager offers a couple of quick tips for getting footage that has been sped-up to look more believable and realistic. There are times when you would want to have some footage play back faster than it was shot, but simple chaining the speed at which the clip plays may give you more pronounced visual distractions that will loose the sale of the shot.

The stomp box market is booming. There are so many weird and wonderful effects about now that are just as interesting as any plug-in. Players have been using pedals on synths and keyboards for years and many top producers use pedals for shaping sounds when recording and mixing so why not have a go yourself!

He had a pretty hands off approach to the visual effects, relying on Angus to interpret what he wanted. Ultimately, the visual effects needed to be invisible and photorealistic, not interrupting the narrative in any way. We concentrated on being as subtle and historically accurate as possible.

After writing Pro Tools Session Navigation In Five Shortcuts I wondered whether there could be an equivalent list written for the Mix window. In short I decided not. Basic operation of the mix window is largely intuitive but I still think there are a few valuable timesavers worthy of a mention. Some of these are very well known but still worth listing for the benefit of the less experienced user. Others are less well known.

If anyone can be described as having dint of will it’s Elaine Stritch, the startling, forceful, brutally honest, and enduringly talented 89-year-old actress and singer who stopped them dead on Broadway with ferociously sung Sondheim songs, and who continues to delight audiences with her acting.

Making sounds pop out in stereo can add much needed dimension to flat sounding mixes. It can also define sections in an arrangement; like a wider sound on the choruses. This is great on vocals, synths, and more. In this article I’ll be showing several techniques and effects that are perfect for accomplishing this. As with all stereo effects, these are best heard with headphones, but even on your monitors you should easily hear the difference. I’m using a simple chord pattern for demonstratin...

The previously hinted-at USB Type-C connector has been detailed in a presentation at IDF conference in China. The new connector is smaller than existing USB connectors, supports more power, faster data transfers, and is symmetrical, similar to Apple's Lightning connector.

You most likely have seen the step effector in Action. Quite popular over the last few years, the step effector is responsible for objects that fold/unfold or build up in an animation. Animator Tyler Jordan offers a foundation look at creating an animation that “builds upwards” in Cinema 4D but using C4D’s Step Effector.
