To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

It’s not often that Hollywood’s stars publicly recognize the great stewardship that an editor of a film has of their performance. But it’s a long journey between what an actor emotes in front of a camera and the reception of that performance by an audience. The director certainly has a strong influence on that performance, but the editor (with the director’s guidance) is the final gatekeeper of the performance the audience sees and the context in which it’s seen.

With their colorful tale of a prehistoric family carving out a new future for themselves, directors Kirk DeMicco and Chris Sanders have changed the course of their own careers. As the ninth highest-grossing film of 2013 and an Oscar nominee for Best Animated Feature, The Croods is proof positive that they’ve got a good collaboration going and DreamWorks isn’t looking to mess with it. A sequel has been scheduled and the duo are on-board to helm it. Though they didn’t win the Oscar, they’v...

Time again I get so wrapped up in success that I can lose the essence of who I am. That child like faith and dreamer begins to fade away and numbers and figures become more important. Today, as I heard the kids playing outside so carelessly, I remembered the possibility of life. I know those who are my age have gone past I want to save the world stage and now its I need to pay my bills. I read on twitter from thirtysomethings telling the twentysomethings -stay in college, it’s not better out h...

All too often people dismiss factory-supplied plug-ins in preference for purchased plug-ins; in some cases the free ones are just as good. Whilst Avid may have a reputation for being misers when it comes to giving stuff away with Pro Tools, there are some gems that ship with Pro Tools that I reach for on a regular basis. Here are 5 factory plug-ins that you should no ignore.

Free Multi-Deformer Plugin

CinemaPlugins.com posts a free tool for C4D. Think of the Multi-Deformer plugin for Cinema 4D as a “layered shader” for deformers. You can place one or more deformers into the Multi-Deformer and then hide the original deformers in a different hierarchy. Multi Deformer will allow you to re-use deformers in the same manner.
