It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Welcome to my review of the DaVinci Resolve Speed Editor. Hardware products designed to supplement and speed up video editing used to be quite rare. In the last few years, there have been quite a few to come along and I have reviewed many here on the Editblog.

Izotope's RX series has been an essential part of our post production process for many years. Since RX 3 we've been de-crackling, de-noising, de-humming and de-reverbing our field interviews with this powerful tool. Every interview track gets an Izotope pass in post as part of our sweetening process to ensure we're releasing the best possible audio mix with all of our content.

I’ve mentioned before that one of the best books on screenwriting I’ve read is actually about editing: “In the Blink of an Eye”, written by the esteemed Walter Murch. Here is a nice video (18 minutes long), a PowerPoint presentation with Murch talking about the “three fathers of cinema”: Beethoven, Flaubert, Edison.

A new episode of the Chaos Group audio podcast is online . On the menu, an interview with Bilali Mack, VFX supervisor working on films and series ( Power Book II: Ghost, One of ours ). The interview evokes in particular the tool Flame of Autodesk, the way in which Bilali Mack directs smoke and blood in the service of the narration.

The movie business is ready to shake off 2020 and the world-shattering pandemic that fundamentally altered the way films are made, distributed and enjoyed. But before the box office can roar back to life, there are still major issues that Hollywood is grappling with, involving everything from cinemas’ red-ink-filled balance sheets to the evolution of studios’ comic book universes.

So, if you’re more on the beginner side of things, there’s really no need to pull your wallet out just yet. No matter the type of content you’re going to be editing—whether it’s podcasts or just general narration/VO—you want something that’s going to allow you to make simple cuts, add transitions, and control the decibels. If you’re looking to do anything else, like adding effects, you’ll need to try out one of the paid programs.
