It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

In a first for me, back in 2017 I was able to preview an animated feature in its early days of production, nearly three years before the film’s release. That feature is The Willoughbys, a BRON Animation Production made in association with Creative Wealth Media, and directed by Kris Pearn (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2). It’s based on the book by Lois Lowry.

Visual effects are becoming an increasingly large part of modern film and television. With the 10 highest grossing films of 2018 being VFX-heavy, it’s no surprise that directors and producers are optimistic about expanding the use of visual effects in lighting, costume, set, makup, hair, production design and stunt capabilities.

Covered in a recent article, we’ve taken a look at the new “Frame.io Workflow From Home” miniseries. Now they have released two more episodes. Episode 5 covers the use-case of the TBS late-night show “Conan”, and Episode 6 expands on “Self-Recording”. Let’s take a look at some of the learnings and insights. If you haven’t seen any of the earlier parts, you might want to take a look at these as well.

I’ve been following DP Matt Workman for a little while now. He’s the founder of Cinematography Database, and the creator of Cine Tracer, a real-time cinematography simulator made in Unreal Engine and available on Steam.

I usually edit with clients in my suite, so I’m accustomed to near-zero latency (yes near-zero, as there’s latency in displays). But as I thought about latency for a remote edit, I realized I had to be realistic about what I really need. I had to think about what really happens in an edit suite, not what I’d like to happen or what I imagine happens.

The late-2019 Mac Pro is Apple's fastest, most configurable and certainly most expensive computer to date. If you need serious power, this is the Mac for you. Previously, if you wanted to 'step up' from the base graphics card, the next best option started at $2400 USD. Now Apple has finally added the more affordable and powerful option, the AMD Radeon Pro W5700X GPU.

Creativity takes power. Creators like style. No one wants to be tied to a desk. Does that sound like you? Five new ENVY notebooks and two new ZBook mobile workstations are vying to become your next creativity tool. The odds are good that one of them will win you over.
