To The Aotg.com Community,

It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.

Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.

We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.

Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.

Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.

I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!

Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Extreme 4K Multi-Mon Video Editing on Windows 8

December 20, 2012, 03:21 PM

http://blogs.windows.com/windows/b/extremewindows/...

I am amazed by the image quality that's possible with today's 4K digital cinema cameras. It's like watching full-res images from a DSLR playing back at 24 fps on the big screen, 4K footage is just stunning. Seeing 4K footage on the big screen got me thinking about 4K displays and 4K video on a PC. With 4K displays just coming to market, I think it's time to examine how this technology will impact our PC experiences in the not-so-distant future.

Editing 'Zero Dark Thirty'

Few films have the potential to be as politically charged as Zero Dark Thirty. Director Kathryn Bigelow (The Hurt Locker, K-19: The Widowmaker) and producer/writer Mark Boal (The Hurt Locker, In the Valley of Elah) have evaded those minefields by focusing on the relentless CIA detective work that led to the finding and killing of Osama bin Laden by U.S. Navy SEALs. Zero Dark Thirty is more of a suspenseful thriller than an action-adventure movie. It seeks to tell a raw, powerful story...

Oscar Predictions: Opening the Film Editing Doors

December 19, 2012, 02:35 PM

http://www.ropeofsilicon.com/2013-oscar-prediction...

The Academy is already submitting nominations for the 2013 Oscars, both by mail and, for the first time, online. As such, there were still a few categories I have yet to begin predicting, and it's time to start opening those doors.

Cutting a 14-Camera Music Video in FCP X Some months ago, I was looking for a project that would let me explore FCP X's multi-cam capabilities. Then I heard about The Nash, Phoenix's new jazz education and performance venue. I figured a project with them might be a great opportunity to learn something useful about Read More

More Real Than Real: THE HOBBIT, HFR

December 18, 2012, 09:31 PM

http://twitchfilm.com/2012/12/fantasy-more-real-th...

Earlier this year, I found myself at a friend of a friend's apartment watching Tod Browning's 1932 masterpiece Freaks through the "motion smoothing" filter on his HD TV. For me, the resulting video-like image of what should be the opposite (which is to say, an absorbing film image - not so much sharp and immediate but lush and rich) robbed Freaks of its intended "filmic-ness", stripping it of the subtle texture and patina that is so accepted as what cinema ought to feel like.
