It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

If you’re looking to use an Adobe suite to edit your films, then you’ve probably taken a look at Premiere Pro and After Effects and wondered which you should use. The answer is probably ‘both’, but in this article we’ll take a look at their best uses and where they work well together.

Last time, I talked about editing software that is subscription-based, namely, Adobe Premiere Pro. As I mentioned, although I was concerned about the subscription aspect of the product, even more important is having the tools I need.

I would be hard-pressed to admit that I don’t love Resolve — because I do. It’s been a pleasure to watch it grow from “just” color-grading software to a leading NLE. However, every so often, I come across a feature that doesn’t like to respond to my request, which feels like your favorite dog chewing up a prized possession.

I’m going to say it right away: I really like the look of the new Mac Pro. It has a classic restraint and elegance, and yet looks assertively modern. If it resembles a cheese grater, then that’s a massive compliment to the kitchen utensil.

The new Mac Pro is an absolute powerhouse with up to 28-core Intel Xeon processors, up to 1.5TB of RAM, up to 4TB of SSD storage, and the option for the "world's most powerful graphics card" in the AMD Radeon Pro Vega II.

We’ve all been waiting a long time for the new Mac Pro to be announced, and this week Apple finally delivered one. And while it certainly impressed many of us (myself included), there was also the inevitable pushback from those who felt the new machine was just too rich for their blood.

So Apple announced the new MacPro yesterday. At a first glance, I have to admit, I was impressed. After all these years, where Apple seems to have abandoned the pro community, they finally listened, got their shit together and provided something, that seems to check all the boxes of the wish list. But on a second thought, it doesn’t look so good anymore.
