It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Mettle is pleased to announce Mantra V2, a free upgrade, which introduces AR production capabilities into Adobe After Effects and Premiere Pro. The new features build on the 360°/VR VFX already found in the Mantra software, and offer more tools for content creators to work in immersive video production. We have simplified the Mantra name, removing “VR”, as we broaden the toolset into VR, AR and XR capabilities.

One of the best ways to compare laptop GPUs is with these two GPU benchmarking apps. Plus if your GPU does not appear below, you can look it up in their respective database of results and/or run the benchmark yourself.

A common issue raised by animation and visual effects studios when they are recruiting is that although new artists do tend to know the software, what these artists don’t always know is how to work at a studio production level.

I know what you’re thinking: “An entire article on how to create thumbnail images for my videos? Who cares?” And while a video’s thumbnail image might seem like the most trivial of trivialities, in many cases, it’s actually the single most important element of your video’s success.

In this third part of our deeper look at 3D game rendering, we'll be focusing what can happen to the 3D world after the vertex processing has done and the scene has been rasterized. Texturing is one of the most important stages in rendering, even though all that is happening is the colors of a two dimensional grid of colored blocks are calculated and changed.

First impressions count, and making an eye-catching intro for your video can help you grab your viewers' attention from the start. But a good, professional-looking After Effects intro is not an easy thing to create from scratch.
