It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Motion is a fantastic tool for creating many kinds of animation, but especially for moving typography or infographics. As it uses your graphics card for the heavy lifting, you can often work without pausing, watching your animation in real-time rather than having to use RAM Preview all the time. Whatever you choose to make, though, it’s worth keeping a few points in mind to make your animation experience as smooth and fluid as possible.

One of the side products of getting older, apart from the emergence of World Series MVPs and internet millionaires who were born while you were in high school, is the fact that people start asking you for professional advice. This has been an odd notion for me to wrap my head around, as I still see myself as a somewhat stunted buffoon who now just happens to have a couple gray hairs and a few nicer shirts -- so far, it seems to be a convincing adult costume.

Behind the scenes, Hollywood tends to be a man's world. Sure, we see women onscreen in the movies, and many of the most famous screen stars are women. But offscreen the gender balance tips: most of cinema's most renowned directors, producers, and composers are men.

Sometimes selling the story isn’t about how cool that weapon sounds, how intimidating the monster vocal is, or how eerie the wind feels. Sometimes, the sounds that are needed most are those tiny little touches we take for granted.

A hypnotic beat commands the attention of the viewer while mirrored images play as the backdrop to crisp and curiously set type. Peaceful hallucinations of forest and sky give way to vast cities, their coloring hitting that sweet spot between a vintage wash and an elegant polish. With the titles for the 2013 Semi-Permanent creative festival, Danny Yount achieves an impressive feat through a combination of visual symmetry and an emotive track from Planet Love Sound. When editor Joe Walker worked with director Steve McQueen on the film, Hunger, about Irish republican Bobby Sands leading prison inmates in a hunger strike, the company took a break from shooting for actor Michael Fassbender to lose weight. During that time they fine cut footage that had already been shot. When they resumed production, McQueen went into the final week of shooting with a clearer notion of what he needed to capture. This included not only pick-ups that would augment the story,...
