It is with a heavy heart that we announce we will no longer be updating Aotg.com. Back in 2007, when we started, there was a lack of access to information about film, television, and commercial editing. We wanted to fix that by creating a central location for content about editing to be stored.
Since then, we've watched the amount of content about editing on the internet grow exponentially. We've also watched social media tools come and go with that growth. Does anyone remember Google Wave!? These social media tools changed how people access and search for media and information. People tend to turn to Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Instagram for their news and information, and those are all great tools to promote your sites, but as a site that aggregates links to other sites for users, it just doesn't work for us.
We will keep the site live but archive the ability to add links and comments. We will keep our database live with the links for those who desire to use it to search for editing information and research.
Our podcast, The Cutting Room, will move over to the Filmmakeru.com website and will continue to be a place for interviews with editors and other film professionals.
Everyone who worked for Aotg.com loved what we created and are proud that we could help so many editors find content that spoke to them.
I look forward to seeing everyone at the various post events worldwide in the coming years!
Yours truly,
Gordon Burkell

Brothers David and Nathan Zellner are a reliable presence at the Sundance Film Festival. Their films Baghead (2008), Goliath (2008), Kid-Thing (2012) and Kumiko, the Treasure Hunter (2014) have all premiered at Sundance. To that list they now add Damsel, their new comedy/western starring Robert Pattinson and Mia Wasikowska. Damsel editor Melba Robichaux spoke with Filmmaker before the film’s premiere about some of the key questions one asks during the process of editing a feature film.

Fewer surprises than usual were on tap when the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) announced the Oscar nominations this morning. The same three films that have been widely praised by critics, guilds, and the Golden Globes — The Shape of Water, Three Billboards outside Ebbing Missouri, and Lady Bird — seem to have […] The post 2018 Oscar Fact Sheet: Notable Firsts, Frontrunners, and the Complete List of Nominees appeared first on Studio Daily.

"You can find inspiration in anything," said Paul Smith. And he's right, of course. But how about we get specific, because whether you're in a creative rut, suffering from writer's block, or just not quite cracking that brief, sometimes you need to take direct action.

This week in Park City, Utah film fans have been treated to a wide variety of indie films by way of the Sundance Film Festival. They offer something for everyone at the festival including several animated offerings. While the animated films were disappointing this year, it is still a rewarding experience to help support small animators and their unique films.

I appreciate the irony of writing this for my volunteer gig, on the weekend, after months of working overtime. I need a break. We all do. It’s a privilege to do creative work for a living. Most of us would be doing what we do in our free time if we weren’t getting paid for […]

Once Apple pulled the plug on QuickTime Player Pro 7, the industry started to look elsewhere for an all-purpose media tool that could facilitate the proper playback, inspection, and encoding of media files.
